AD / Collaborative Post: Founded by James Cavers, Pure Selva is the new Holistic Medicine that comes from the Amazon Rainforest. Cavers believes that the Amazon “provides a lot of the cures for modern day ailments and disease. We are surrounded by nature, we are nature, so possibly the best way to heal is through natures foods.” The Holistic Medicine attempts to prevent illness by placing a greater emphasis on optimizing health – the body’s natural state is one of health. An illness or disease is viewed as an imbalance in the body’s systems. Holistic therapies tend to emphasize proper nutrition and avoidance of substances (such as chemicals) that pollute the body. There are no limits to the range of diseases and disorders that can be treated in a holistic way, as the principle of holistic healing is to balance the body, mind, spirit, and emotions so that the person’s whole being functions smoothly. In other words, homeopathy is a safe, gentle, and natural system of healing that works with your body to relieve symptoms, restore itself, and improve your overall health. (ichelp.org)

“I am interested in Natural Health and along with that the idea that there is a natural cure for every illness and disease known to man. We have always had a relationship with Nature. I believe that relationship should be more harmonious than it is now and that our role is as custodians,” says the founder of Pure Selva – James Cavers for Iconic Magazine Online.

“The brand came from my time backpacking in South America, particularly in the Amazonian region of Peru. I used to frequent the markets drinking fruit juices and feeling amazing sensations and vitality after these exotic and mysterious berries and fruits. I got to know an Acai Juice manufacturer and an Ayahuasca Health Clinic owner in this region that made me realise there is a market and requirement for these products in the UK.”

Pure Selva’s Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) is a type of leafy plant traditionally used in Asian cuisines that also has a long history of use in both traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. It is a perennial plant indigenous to the tropical wetlands of Southeast Asia, where it is a commonly used as a juice, tea, or green leafy vegetable. Gotu Kola is believed by alternative practitioners to have antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and memory-enhancing properties. It contains certain chemicals that seem to decrease inflammation and also decrease blood pressure in veins. Gotu kola also seems to increase collagen production, which is important for wound healing.

Camu Camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a berry native to the Amazon rainforest. Camu camu’s purported health benefits include reducing the risk of chronic diseases thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Nutritionally, camu camu is one of the most concentrated natural food sources of vitamin C. Because of that, camu camu is also rich in antioxidants, which have anti-inflammatory properties. For example, a single teaspoon serving of one brand of freeze-dried camu camu powder provides 682 mg of vitamin C—more than 10 times the amount in a medium-size orange, according to Health.com. Beyond vitamin C, camu camu provides smaller amounts of potassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and copper. Like most colorful berries, camu camu is a good source of polyphenols and also has antimicrobial properties, and researchers have identified compounds in the fruit that have strong antimicrobial benefits.

Native to the Amazon rainforest, where it has been cultivated and consumed long before the arrival of the first Europeans to the New World, the Pure Selva’s Aguaje, also known as buriti and curvy fruit, provides great nutritional value and medicinal benefits, particularly for women’s health issues related to hormonal imbalances. In the Brasillian Amazon its called “Buriti” and in other places, “Moriche Palm”. Aguaje is a reddy brown fruit with a scaly covering, and a deep yellow pulp inside. It is the fruit of a palm tree which grows all over the Amazon regions of Brasil and Peru. Aguaje is an extraordinary fruit, containing between 7 – 12 times the beta carotene of carrots, making it the most concentrated natural plant source of beta carotene (vitamin “A”) in the world, Woman Fitness states. The oil extracted from the buriti fruit is rich in many nutrients, including essential fatty acids, vitamins, and beta-carotene. In fact, the oil is said to provide the richest known source of beta-carotene—even more than carrot seed oil. Natives used the oil to treat skin burns, because of its calming, soothing, and regenerating properties. Additionally, studies have focused in other potential aguaje benefits, such as lowering cholesterol levels, preventing blood clots, and treating bacterial infections. More about the benefits of Aguaje here.
“I believe we, humanity, are out of balance, the Amazon and the rest of Gaia is calling us to restore that balance” Cavers explains. “A lot of what I sell is measured by trial and error, if it sells – great! If not – it is discontinued. My target audience is health conscious people who choose to look for and search for healt products outside of the mainstream and Big Pharma controlled narrative. Due to the product range we have, some of our customers are from the LGBT community plus women. On the opposite of this we have Vegan bodybuilders looking to boost and increase their gains.”

The truth is that the power of rainforest plants have been known for thousand of years and there is no limit when it comes to the range of diseases that can be treated in a holistic way. According to Adventure Life, indigenous groups have made extensive use of the materials contained in the rainforest to meet their health needs. Shamans were the first medical specialists in indigenous communities, and their traditional methods are known to be effective in treating both physical and psychological ailments. The World Health Organization estimates that 80 percent of the people in developing countries still rely on traditional medicine for their primary health care needs. The holistic medicine promotes not only physical health, but also mental and emotional one, treating each individual in a unique way designed to stimulate the healing ability.
