The Mere is one of Scarborough’s hidden gems. Once a popular tourist attraction with boats, a large putting green and a miniature Spansh galleon called “the Hispaniola”, visitors could make trips to the “Treasure Island” and dig for Doubloons. Unfortunately, the maintenance of the lake decreased with time and the activities are all gone. Still, this lovely lake is populated by a large number of wild birds, geese and swans being in the center of attention because of their curious and delicate nature. The Mere is also a fishing lake and it is part of the Oliver’s Mount Country Park.
